When I first heard about affiliate marketing, I had no idea what it was. All I knew was that people were making money online by recommending products—and that sounded interesting enough for me to give it a shot. The only problem? I had zero experience, no audience, and no clue where to start.

Step 1: Understanding What Affiliate Marketing Is
Affiliate marketing is pretty simple. You promote a product or service using a special link, and if someone buys through your link, you earn a commission. You don’t need to create a product, ship anything, or provide customer support. You’re just the middleman connecting buyers to sellers.
Once I understood this, things started to click.
Step 2: Picking a Platform to Start On
I didn’t have a blog or YouTube channel, so I started with what I already had—Facebook. You don’t need a huge following; just a few friends or groups that share your interests.
I joined a few groups related to Amazon selling and online side hustles. I paid attention to what people were asking, and when the time was right, I shared a useful link (more on that later!).
Step 3: Choosing the Right Affiliate Program
There are a lot of affiliate programs out there, but I started with Fiverr’s affiliate program. Why? Because Fiverr offers services that people are actively searching for, like Amazon Ads management, SEO help, and product descriptions.
Plus, the signup was free and quick.
I signed up, grabbed my unique link, and started looking for a service to promote.
Step 4: Promoting My Link (Without Being Spammy)
Here’s where most beginners mess up: they spam their links everywhere. I didn’t want to do that. Instead, I focused on being helpful.
In one Facebook group, someone asked if there were any affordable Amazon Ads services. I replied with a genuine recommendation and added my affiliate link. I didn’t push it. I just said, “Hey, I found this helpful service on Fiverr. It might be worth checking out.” That’s it.
The next day, I got an email: “You’ve earned a commission.”
Step 5: Rinse and Repeat
That one small success gave me confidence. I realized that I didn’t need to be a marketing expert or have thousands of followers. I just needed to:
